"The City of Port Phillip respectfully acknowledges the Yalukit Wilam Clan of the Boon Wurrung. We pay our respect to their Elders, both past and present. We acknowledge and uphold their continuing relationship to this land."
Establishment of the City of Port Phillip
The City of Port Phillip was established on 22 June 1994, following a state government review of Victorian local government boundaries.
Three former cities - St Kilda, South Melbourne and Port Melbourne - were amalgamated to form the City of Port Phillip.
Between establishment in 1994 and the first council election for the City of Port Phillip in March 1996, three state government-appointed commissioners conducted the functions of the mayor and councillors.
What does the Council do?
The City of Port Phillip is responsible for delivering more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These vary from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, maintenance of sporting reserves and parks, rubbish collection and road maintenance. And many more.
