About the role

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer – Design to provide geotechnical recommendations to Mine Planning and Studies, and ensure geotechnical residual risks are communicated to Operations for management during implementation.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer with appropriate skills and experience, to join the Geotechnical Engineering team in Perth. Working a 5 days on, 2 off roster and reporting to the Principal Design Engineer, you will be:

  • Providing recommendations for the appropriate collection of geotechnical data reflecting the level of Study (Conceptual to Implementation)
  • Assessment of geological, hydrogeological and structural information to formulate a geotechnical model.
  • Derivation of material parameters from drilling, laboratory and reconciliation data for input into geotechnical models.
  • Assisting the Specialist Geotechnical Engineers in preparation of geotechnical design recommendations
  • Communication of residual geotechnical risks to Operations for management of risk.
  • Engaging with external consultants to ensure that fit for purpose design recommendations are made to industry standards
  • Championing the Rio Tinto D3 standard (management of slope geotechnical hazards)

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • BSc, BEng Earth Science or Engineering Degree, relevant post graduate qualifications would be preferable
  • Current WA ” C Class” Driver’s License
  • Experience with geotechnical data collection
  • Some experience with open pit geotechnical design, particularly using Rocscience and Vulcan (or equivalent) software
  • Open pit operational geotechnical experience
  • Strong technical report writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise work
  • Strong people skills

The role is based in our Perth Hub, located in the Central Park building, 152-158 St Georges Terrace. The role will require some travel to our operating sites in the Pilbara region as required.
