Oberon Council is seeking applications for the position of Casual Seasonal Labourer. The position will assist in the day-to-day duties in the parks and gardens team for a period of up to three (3) months. The opportunity is seasonal in nature and workloads will vary depending on the weather and operational needs. 

The role is classified under Councils salary structure as a Grade 5 - $35.52 per hour inclusive of 25% casual loading.

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Operate vehicles and light machinery including lawn mowers and whipper snippers.
  • Carry out labouring duties on parks and gardens and town maintenance.
  • Use and apply chemicals in accordance with SWP’s
  • Take care of own and others’ safety and wellbeing by following safe work practices and alerting the appropriate personnel to any health and safety concerns.
  • Act in manner to use basic sense and a variety of problem-solving methods to develop workable solutions for jobs.
  • All other duties as directed within the skills and knowledge of the Band Level of the Award.

Key Selection Criteria.

Essential:

  1. Must hold a construction industry induction card issued by SafeWork NSW, – Work Safely in the construction industry.
  2. Relevant work experience in a labouring role, preferably in Parks and Gardens.
  3. Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a team, follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.
  4. Demonstrate ability to carry out manual, physically demanding, labour on a day-to-day basis.
  5. Class C drivers' licence with ability to drive manual vehicles.

Desirable:

  1. MR/HR licence and experience operating small plant and machinery.
  2. Have or prepared to obtain certificates in Chemical usage, tickets for various heavy equipment.

Selected applicants will be required to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment medical examination covering the areas of drug and alcohol screening, hearing, vision, core upper/lower body strengths and balance, manual handling, cardiovascular and blood pressure.
