About the role

This position is a permanent, full-time role in the Development and Compliance team and is based at Council’s Administration Office located in Moruya. As the Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will monitor and respond to threats and impacts on the environment, public health and the built and social infrastructure with an integrated education approach ensuring statutory requirements and Council standards are maintained, complied with and followed.

Your main duties will include:

  • Coordinate the Public and Environmental Health Team including team planning, submissions, grant and budget management, staff selection, training, monitoring of staff performance and workflows.
  • Respond to complex health and environment-related complaints, issue orders, and represent the Council in court actions, ensuring compliance with council delegations and supervisor consultation.
  • Monitoring environmental health operations, maintaining databases, determining applications, and advising on development, building, legal, health, and environment policies and practices.
  • Preparing reports for Council and committees, participating in multi-disciplinary teams, and conducting special assignments and assessments related to public health, environment, building, and planning matters.

Salary Information

Total remuneration for the role is in the range of $101,633.35 to $112,293.96 gross per annum comprising:

  • $91,150.99 to $100,712.07 base salary
  • $10,482.36 to $11,581.89 superannuation (calculated at 11.5%)

When required by Council, participation in an on-call roster is part of this position. An allowance is paid when on call. A fully maintained Council leaseback vehicle (including full private usage) is also available!

A satisfactory outcome as a result of a National Criminal History Record Check and Pre-Employment Medical is required for appointment to this position.

About you

If you are passionate about protecting public health, looking after the environment and protecting the pristine waters in the Eurobodalla Shire area, this is the job for you! To be our successful candidate, you will hold a Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey detailed information in a clear, timely manner, are essential. Additionally, your application should demonstrate the following:

  • Ability, competency and knowledge of relevant building, health and environment legislation, standards, and guidelines.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in developing and implementing public health and environmental monitoring and reporting programs.
  • Computer literacy with specific expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and MapInfo and developing expertise in GIS systems.
  • Understanding of Ecologically Sustainable Development.
