We are seeking a positive-minded and motivated individual to join our Tree Services Team as a Technical officer. In this role, you will lead and empower teams, demonstrate excellent scheduling and coordination skills, and ensure the efficient delivery of tree maintenance services. You will also oversee compliance with legislation, guidelines, and budget parameters.

The City of Salisbury’s Field Services Department is dedicated to maintaining Council’s essential infrastructure, ensuring that public spaces and assets remain safe, functional, and inviting. This comprehensive service includes the maintenance of buildings, workshops, fleet, and stores; civil infrastructure such as drainage, footpaths, and waste management; and the care of parks, landscapes, and open spaces. Specialized teams handle everything from arboriculture and turf management to pest control and security, while also responding to emergencies and maintaining contracts for features like reserve maintenance and cemetery services. Field Services plays a crucial role in supporting a vibrant and sustainable community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect and audit trees and arboriculture assets across the city, assess conditions, and prioritize necessary actions.
- Provide detailed resource and material estimates to coordinators for tree service projects.
- Assist in developing and monitoring work schedules and programs for tree services.
- Coordinate and schedule both in-house crews and contractors for planned and reactive services.
- Respond to customer requests and provide updates in line with Council standards.
- Conduct risk assessments, especially for significant and regulated trees, and develop work schedules.
- Supervise contractors for Unit Pruning Programs and ensure adherence to standards.
- Offer technical advice to tree services teams and external contractors to uphold service quality.
- Act in the position of Co-ordinator as required and approved by the Manager Field Services.
- Responsibilities may include other duties within the Field Services Division as deemed appropriate.
- Proactive liaison with internal and external customers including contractors in the identification and planning of service delivery.
Essential Criteria:
- Diploma in Arboriculture
- Current SA driver's licence
- Proven experience in contract management and leadership
- Proficient in MS Office suite
