APS6/EL1 Government Lawyer

Your new company

A high-profile government department is seeking two experienced lawyers in Commercial Law & Legislative & Policy Law. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to legislative reform and policy development at a national level.

Your new role

As a lawyer, you will play a key role in supporting the department’s commercial, legislative and policy objectives. You will provide expert legal advice, manage legislative processes and liaise with key stakeholders across government.

• Acting as Legislation Liaison Officer for the department
• Advising on legislative processes and supporting strategic policy objectives
• Supervising a small legal team and ensuring high-quality outputs
• Leading coordination of legislative bids and variations
• Managing relationships with key stakeholders including Parliamentary Liaison Officers and central agencies
• Monitoring and reporting on the progress of legislation through Parliament
• Coordinating departmental input on draft legislation and reform initiatives
• Supporting legal assurance and privacy governance functions
• Advising senior executives on legal risk and compliance

• Strong legal advisory skills, including drafting, research, and problem-solving

• Excellent communication, judgement, and discretion

• Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills

• Ability to work independently and lead a small team under tight deadlines
