About the role
 

The HSE team at Rio Tinto Yarwun is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Occupational Health Nurse to join their highly skilled team to provide acute injury treatment, perform pre-employment medical assessments and periodic medical surveillance for employees and contractors at Rio Tinto Yarwun.
 

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to assist in driving a strong health and wellbeing program.
 

Reporting to the Health and Hygiene Specialist, you will be:

  • Providing advice and support to improve health and safety performance and prevent injury and illness across the operation through assessment of fitness for work
  • Conducting pre-employment and periodic medical testing and health surveillance, and taking appropriate actions for out-of-spec results
  • Management of work-related injuries
  • Coordinating and delivering health and wellbeing promotion activities
  • Communicating with employees and leaders, and other key stakeholders
  • Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with site health, safety and community policies, systems and procedures
     

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in Occupational Health or relevant certification
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
  • Previous experience performing and interpreting Audiograms and Lung Function test with relevant certification.
  • A self-motivated work ethic and a positive, motivated attitude
  • A strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing or yourself and your team  
  • Certificate of competency in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) testing

Where you’ll be working

Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.

As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.

With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
