As part of our commitment to Best Operator and Impeccable Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Rio Tinto continues to evolve its Ethics and Compliance third-party risk management (TPRM) capabilities. We are seeking a Responsible Value Chains Lead: to provide focused leadership on how value chain risk, in certain key global categories and particularly those tied to community-based procurement are identified, assessed, monitored, and reported.
This newly created role will strengthen a growing workstream with high visibility across the business, requiring both technical expertise and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Based preferably in Perth, this position offers the opportunity to shape Rio Tinto’s approach to responsible sourcing and risk-informed decision-making in key categories and among key groups.
Reporting to the General Manager, Third Party Risk Management, you will:
Be a subject matter expert in value chain risk identification, assessment, and risk mitigation in key categories such as, but not limited to, renewables and key groups such as local communities
Advise the GM TPRM on opportunities to enhance risk-based TPRM procedures
Cooperate with our specialist TPRM due diligence advisors, various commercial and our Communities and Social Performance teams, and the Environmental Area of Excellence to produce accurate and well-timed due diligence assessments
Provide considered risk opinions to management and the GM TPRM on practical matters relating to risk appetite setting using your subject matter experience and knowledge
Lead planned projects to align TPRM master data management with various relevant obligatory and voluntary reporting requirements to which Rio Tinto is subject
Design content and support Ethics and Compliance colleagues in delivering relevant training
Represent the E&C TPRM function on relevant internal forums and working groups, and report to designated governance structures
Support and attend the Group TPRM Committee, working closely with the GM TPRM to plan and prepare papers and make presentations
Monitor key risk mitigations of select third-party engagements and advise management of identified concerns in a timely manner
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Be Australia-based, with a preference for Perth
Strong conceptual skills with a practical and outcomes-based mindset
A tertiary qualification and/or at least 10 years’ experience in ethics and compliance, risk management, business intelligence, or sustainability consultancy
Experience in value chain risk analysis, with ESG assurance and reporting highly beneficial
Familiarity with machine-assisted due diligence platforms such as Compliance Catalyst, Sayari, and others
At least 7 years of risk management experience in multinational corporations
Clear communication skills—both verbal and written
Ideally, prior experience in sustainability, ethics, compliance, and risk management in global corporations
