Work experience

Where possible, the City of Cockburn provides opportunities to undertake work experience.

To apply, simply send a brief resume and cover letter to hr@cockburn.wa.gov.au.

Remember to outline your area of interest and the dates and times you are available for work experience. Your request will be sent to the relevant area manager to assess. We will contact you to let you know the outcome. 

Important note: If your work experience application is granted, you will be required to undertake your own insurance cover. If you are a student, your school or training provider will usually provide insurance for you. Further information will be provided upon acceptance of your application.

Applicants with a disability

The application process for applicants with a disability is the same as it would be for anyone applying for a position at the City of Cockburn.

If you have a disability, you can choose whether or not to tell us in your application or at any time during the application process. For example, you may wish to include some information about your disability and discuss any required work-related adjustments, in your cover letter.

If you work with a Disability Employment Service, you can have them contact us directly to discuss any specific needs you may have. We can also advise your Disability Employment Service on the progress of the application.

Adjustments for the interview

If you have been offered an interview, you are encouraged to discuss any special requirements with the recruiting officer at this point.

The City will take all reasonable steps to ensure accessibility requirements will be available for you at your interview. 

This could include:

• Making provisions for an Auslan interpreter to attend the interview
• Providing information about wheelchair access and ACROD parking
• Granting access to the City’s hearing loop system.

Adjustments during the interview

If you have not mentioned your disability in your application, you may want to discuss this at your interview. 

This could include:

• How your disability may affect your ability to perform certain duties
• Any adjustments you feel would assist you in performing your duties.

You can discuss any adjustments in more detail at any time during the recruitment process.

Adjustments after employment

You can discuss any needs you may have, or changes to those needs at any time during your employment at the City. Adjustments can be made as long as you are able to fulfil the requirements of the position.
