The Advisor Laboratory and Building Services role supports the smooth running of the Bundoora Technical Development Centre (BTDC). The role is accountable for maintaining operational effectiveness of the Bundoora building including office and common use areas, laboratories, pilot plant areas, plant rooms and grounds.
Reporting to the Supervisor Maintenance and Facilities and working in a collaborative community, your responsibilities will include:
Support compliance to Rio Tinto and Australian safety regulations, standards and policies
General building maintenance
Grounds maintenance
Building security
Office fit out
Support for the storage office/building equipment and supplies
Support the management of building projects
Electrical, mechanical and cleaning contractor management

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Problem solving skills to develop practical solutions to every day situations to meet the needs of the teams working on site.
Ability to work on multiple tasks to the Bundoora operation including re-modelling of work areas and grounds to meet Rio Tinto needs.
Ability to build working relationships with the team on site and neighbours in the La Trobe precinct.
Relevant experience in building maintenance and administration functions
Experience and knowledge of Facility Management processes
Computer literacy – MS Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to work with minimum supervision and prioritse work
High level of interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
High level written and verbal communication skills
Supervisory experience (contractors)
Knowledge/experience with HSE (Health Safety Environment) compliance including risk management, safe work instructions and pre-job hazard assessments
Current license for forklift, working at heights (WAH), confined space, dogman – preferred

The BTDC is a large 7000m2 facility with offices, laboratories, large scale testing facilities. We support Rio Tinto to innovate and deliver value for Growth and Closure studies. We work across all of Rio Tinto’s product groups and commodities.
