Drive your career forward with Banyule's Waste Collection Team

As a Solo Operator, you will ensure the efficient collection of household garbage/recycling/organics, commercial waste, parks waste and bundle branch collection. You’ll have a passion for ensuring a safe workplace and community as well as taking pride in assuring equipment is maintained and in good condition.

You’ll be a part of Banyule City Council's Operations Department, responsible for providing a range of services to Council including the collection of waste and recyclable materials from within the municipality and the Banyule Waste Recovery Centre, mechanical sweeping of roads & footpaths, inspection and maintenance of pits and drains, clearance of litter bins from shopping centres and litter bins, cleaning of council’s toilet blocks and barbeques and the management of Council's Plant and Fleet.

What you'll do:

  • Collect kerbside waste in a safe and friendly manner
  • Pick up public waste in parks and collect commercial waste
  • Assist Council to achieve waste reduction and recovery targets, and environmental goals
  • Carry out regular and routine operator maintenance to trucks in accordance with legislative requirements

Every day, a cleaner Banyule – Thanks to you - all that you do will assist Council to achieve waste reduction and recovery targets and meet our environmental goals.

This role commences at 5.15am with a group task finish, working 38 hours per week.

What you’ll bring: skills, experience and certificates:

  • Current heavy rigid truck licence (HR)
  • Experience operating a side and rear loader
  • Experience in the operation of a side loading waste collection vehicle
  • Experience in the collection of household garbage/recycling/organics, commercial, parks waste, dump rubbish and hard waste
  • An awareness of Work Health and Safety practices
  • Commitment to high customer service and ethical standards
  • Proficient in the use of two-way radio communication systems
  • History of safe and competent operation of vehicles

Mandatory Pre-employment screenings:

  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (Previously known as a police checks)
  • Drivers licence and Heavy Rigid Truck License
  • Functional Capacity Assessment
