About the Role

It's an exciting time for Wollondilly with major town centres being planned and built. A rare opportunity has arisen within Council's Shire Planning and Advocacy section for a Strategic Planner to join the team. Reporting to the Team Leader Employment & Rural Industries you will collaborate to support the employment and rural land use planning for the Shire. 

This unique role will enable you to contribute to improving local job creation opportunities, support agriculture and rural industries whilst balancing the expected long-term growth of the Shire. In this role you will assess and prepare Planning Proposals, develop strategic land use plans and policies, and support initiatives that contribute to Wollondilly’s growing and diverse economy.

Some exciting projects that you will have the opportunity to work on include:

  • A new Night Time Economy Strategy and planning framework
  • Major employment rezoning proposals and planning of new employment hubs across the Shire
  • Developing innovative rural planning initiatives that support the viability and enhancement of Wollondilly’s valuable agricultural industry
  • Leveraging Wollondilly’s economic growth opportunities from the Western Sydney Airport and aerotropolis

The successful candidate must demonstrate their competency for the position by meeting the following essential criteria:

  • Degree qualifications in Town planning or related discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Ability to efficiently assess, negotiate and problem solve planning proposals and other strategic planning processes.
  • Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate effectively with all levels of Council and the community.
  • Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.
